A Hint of Fall at the Jerome Farmers Market

As August begins to wind down, the gardens are changing. The weather may still be warm and dry, but there’s a feeling in the morning air that tells us fall is coming. The days are getting just a little shorter, the gardens are shifting, and harvest season is settling in.

We’ve been picking up plenty of peaches and pears, and now is a wonderful time for canning and preserving. Tomatoes are making a fabulous appearance, the peppers are right where they should be, and while watermelon and cantaloupe are beginning to slow down, other fruits and vegetables are ripening to take their places. That’s one of the wonderful things about shopping with the seasons—there is always something new coming on.

With school now in session, many of us are also starting to think ahead. It’s time to put food by for the winter, fill the freezer and pantry, and enjoy the abundance that comes with late summer.

This is also a great time to begin a little pre-holiday shopping. The Jerome Farmers Market can help take some of the stress out of the busy months ahead. Pick up locally made gifts now, stock up on honey, and tuck a few things away before the holiday rush begins.

And here’s a little reminder: sourdough bread freezes beautifully and can hold for months. Pick up an extra loaf, put it in the freezer, and you’ll be very happy to have it when the first cool “soup” day arrives.

Come spend your Saturday morning with us. Pick up fresh produce, do a little gift shopping, stock up on honey, have a bite of lunch, and enjoy visiting with your neighbors and friends.

Summer may be winding down, but there is still plenty of goodness coming out of our gardens.

 What a busy month August has been! There are so many wonderful activities happening throughout our community, and we love being a part of the excitement.

August is Idaho Farmers Market Month, and the Jerome Farmers Market is celebrating! This Saturday, we will be gifting reusable market bags to our patrons. They are perfect for carrying fresh produce, a loaf of bread, or whatever treasures you happen to discover while visiting our vendors.

And there will be plenty to fill them with!

This week, we will continue to have some of the wonderful flavors of summer, including sweet corn, watermelon and peaches. We’re also adding pears, nectarines, more tomatoes and cantaloupe to the list. The peppers are waking up too, and the variety at the market just keeps getting better as the gardens continue producing.

With school starting next week, it’s also a great time to pick up a few things for the students in your life. Find fresh produce and baked goodies for lunches, check out the tie-dye clothing, and browse the many handmade and one-of-a-kind items our vendors bring each week.

Come hungry, because we will also have two food vendors on hand for lunch! Grab something delicious, find a shady spot, visit with friends and enjoy a little time at the market before the rush of another school year begins.

 Looking Toward the Light at the Jerome Farmers Market

Before we get into this week’s Jerome Farmers Market, we’d simply like to send our love and heartfelt prayers to the families, employees, first responders, and everyone affected by last week’s tragedy in Twin Falls. Our hearts are with you. Events like this are difficult to understand, and they remind us just how important our communities are. We are deeply sorry for the pain so many are experiencing.

This week at the market, we’re looking toward the sun—sunflowers, that is.

The sunflower has always been the symbol of the Jerome Farmers Market. To us, it represents hope, goodness, kindness, and light. Sometimes the simplest things—a bouquet of fresh flowers, a conversation with a neighbor, or sharing fresh food around the table—can remind us that there is still so much good in the world.

We invite you to bring your family, meet up with friends, and spend a peaceful morning with us. Our vendors pour their hearts into everything they grow, bake, create, and share. We hope you’ll leave not only with watermelon, sweet corn, peaches, and all the wonderful produce of August, but also with a smile and a full heart.

If you’re planning to enjoy the Jerome County Parade at 10:00 a.m., stop by the market beforehand for the best selection of produce, or come back afterward to see what treasures are still waiting for you.
